5/17/2023 0 Comments Define outguessIt was also handy that the author did a summary of tips and strategies at the end of each chapter. The chapters on passwords, crowd-sourced ratings, manipulated and fake numbers were good, as well as the chapters in Part Two on big data and retail prices. The introductory chapters to Parts One and Two were more fascinating than many of the chapters that followed, but I still liked several of the topics that were covered. The chapter on the stock market was a struggle for me to get through, and I didn't care much about the sports-related chapters either.īut the book explored some interesting ideas about how our minds tend to work, how bad people are at randomness and how we see patterns where there aren't any. With topics ranging from rock, paper, scissors strategies to office pools to the stock market, it's a good bet every chapter will not be of equal interest to a reader. Well, I don't think I'll be outguessing and outwitting "almost everybody" after reading this, but it was still an interesting book. PS: I got this book for free through Goodreads First Reads So I give it a 3.5, gaining points for being awesome and losing them being all over the place (in terms of topics). That’s really the best way.īe warned: There is some dense math in this book (especially in the Stock Market chapter), so if you’re not a math person, you might just want to avoid this book altogether. Now, I read the book all the way through (because that is what I do), so you can trust me when I say that you should feel free to read what sounds interesting and ignore what doesn’t. The Rock Paper Scissors chapter was so much fun, but the sports betting chapters were considerably less so (I’m not a gambler). The chapters were rather short – some were only a couple pages long.Īnother downside is that it’s hard to be interested in every chapter. This is both good and bad, since covering everything means you have less time for the specifics. This book covers so much ground, from tennis to the Oscars to (you guessed it) rock paper scissors. Rock Breaks Scissors is billed as a “practical guide to outguessing and outwitting almost everybody”. Keep the funds in fixed-income (bonds, etc) when not in stocks. The practical side of me liked the tips on when to buy large ticket items (if you find a 20% discount from average best price over the past year, buy it.) Similarly, the advice on the stock market seems very useful - sell stocks when the Shiller PE is 28 and buy when the Shiller PE is 13. The Terasabos effect is "This effect requires acting skills and balls of steel". I liked the explanation of the mentalist's trick - and the mnemonic used "TERASABOS" for the effect. I'm not much of a gambler but the explanation of football/basketball pools were interesting as was rock/paper/scissors (Who knew there was competitive RPS?) There are explanations of randomness - it does not look like what you expect it to and thus it can used to track people cheating on their expense accounts and taxes. This book is billed as a "hands-on guide to turning life's odds in your favor" and it rarely disappoints. On the practical side, there's plenty of usable information on how to play games (tennis, lottery, rock/paper/scissors) while the nerdy side loves the graphs and math explanations of why these trends and streaks work or, more likely, don't. I enjoyed this book - it appealed to me both on a practical level and a nerd level. This was an ARC that I won through Goodreads First Reads. Below, we get into some of the specifics about the amount of electricity heated floors use. The good news is, not only is radiant heat comparable, but the efficiency of the system will likely save you money in the long run. St.One of the most common concerns about radiant heat flooring is the amount of energy the system will consume and its comparison to other services. For best performance, use these materials only for electric radiant heat on a timer.Ĭarpeting tends to work like a pot holder does for a hot pan, insulating you from the heat, so is not recommended flooring. Engineered wood performs slightly better, but shares some of the temperature limitations of vinyl and laminate flooring. Real wood floors tend to eventually dry out from radiant heat, causing shrinkage, cracks and gaps. Follow the example of the ancient Romans and use stone, concrete or ceramic tile flooring. Radiant floors need materials that naturally conduct heat while withstanding direct contact with high temperatures. It adds to your comfort in specific situations rather than act as a primary heat source, so it integrates very well with existing forced-air systems. They work best in small areas as on-demand heat controlled by a timer, making them ideal for bathrooms, mudrooms or sunrooms. These systems are more affordable and easier to install, which makes them ideal for remodeling projects, but cost more to operate on a daily basis, increasing your electric bill. Electric Radiant Floor HeatingĮlectric radiant heat is a series of electric wires buried under the floor and controlled by a thermostat. Systems can be installed on the underside of floors, such as the basement ceiling, but this tends to reduce the conductive effectiveness. This increases the thickness of your flooring. It needs to be installed between existing subfloor with new flooring above it. The water system works best when used across the entire home (similar to a radiator system) or large floor areas, and run constantly during cold weather to maintain an even temperature. Starting from scratch adds considerable start-up cost, but in both situations your energy bills will not dramatically increase, and may decrease over time. Known as a hydronic system, heated water from a boiler is pumped through a network of piping under your floors.įor homes with a boiler system already in place, hydronic heating can be cost effective. The ancient Romans figured out the law of physics around heat and invented the water-based radiant system still in use today. Can increase energy efficiency Hydronic Radiant Floor Heating. Will not dry out your skin or sinuses, does not rob air of moisture.Better air quality, eliminates blowing dust from ductwork.Increases comfort with constant, low heat.Quiet way to heat with no visible ducts, radiators or holes.Let’s take a quick overview of the details of radiant floor heating. With a radiant floor heating system, heat begins at the base and slowly conducts upward, keeping you consistently warm in the process. With a forced-air system, heat is pushed to the ceiling and you wait for it to drop down as it cools. If you feel uneven heating in your home during cold weather, you’re experiencing the physics of air movement. 5/17/2023 0 Comments Four mount drive abroro pikka parkOn October 12, 1903, in accordance with Act No. In 1901, the municipality of Las Piñas, previously a part of the province of Manila, was incorporated to the newly created province of Rizal pursuant to the Philippine Commission Act No. The town of Las Piñas was also a major war theater during the 1896 Philippine Revolution, as it was occupied by forces of General Emilio Aguinaldo. Years later, Las Piňas also became a central battleground between Spanish and Philippine forces during the Philippine Revolution. In 1880, the city experienced an outbreak of cholera and smallpox leading to the loss of many lives. Las Piňas is famous for its Bamboo Organ, which was built by Fr. Felix Timbang was the first gobernadorcillo in 1762, while Mariano Ortiz was the first municipal president of the town of Las Piñas. On the other hand, Manuel Buzeta recorded the date at 1797. Las Piñas was formerly called "Las Pilas" due to its separation from Parañaque due to tribal conflicts. It was proclaimed as a province of Manila either in 1762 or 1797. Las Piñas was one of the earliest fishing settlements on the shores of Manila Bay. Padre Diego Cera se fundió este equilón año de 1820," showing that even during the time of Diego Cera, the town's first parish priest, the town was called "Las Peñas", for some time and eventually was renamed "Las Piñas". An inscription on the bell states, "Siendo cura del pueblo de Laspeñas el M.R.P. Joseph Parish Church founded by Diego Cera has been preserved inside the church museum. Another version related that it was "Las Peñas" (the rocks), evident by the quarrying of stones and adobe which were used to construct buildings and bridges. One version mentioned, that traders from the province of Cavite and Batangas shipped their first piñas (Spanish for pineapples) for sale to this town before they were distributed to nearby markets. The story about the true origin of the city's name, "Las Piñas", varies. Attractions include Evia Lifestyle Center, SM Southmall, Robinsons Place Las Piñas and Las Piñas - Parañaque Wetland Park. Las Piñas was sixth in MoneySense Philippines "Best Places To Live" report in 2008. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 606,293 people. If you do not already have an Amazon account, start there. It is ridiculously easy to set up an author account. Readers can buy tokens in bundles of 200 ($1.99), 525 ($4.99), 1100 ($9.99), or 1700 ($14.99).Īs they read, readers can give feedback such as marking your story as a “favorite” or giving an episode a “thumbs up.” This feedback will affect your bonus. It takes 12 tokens to unlock and episode that is 1200-1299 words in length. For example it takes 6 tokens to unlock an episode that is in the 600-699 word length. The number of tokens it takes to unlock an episode corresponds to the length of the episode. After which, readers must redeem tokens to unlock future episodes. The first three episodes of every Kindle Vella story are free to readers. Many modern-day authors are having similar success, building their fan bases through Kindle Vella. Many unknown 19th century authors were able to establish an audience and grow in popularity by first publishing in serialized format, including but not limited to Charles Dickens, George Eliot, Thomas Hardy, and Robert Louis Stevenson. There was (and still is) a benefit to authors for writing serially. In the modern era, Kindle Vella readers are reading on their phones, often during short breaks in their busy days, like while standing in line at the DMV or waiting in the carpool lane. This allowed poorer overworked readers to enjoy stories that would have been too expensive for them to read as leather-bound volumes. Serialized novels first popped up as early as the 17th century and really took off in England during the 19th century when novels were published episodically in newspapers and magazines. Instead of chapters, you are publishing “episodes,” much like a television series. If you haven’t already heard about Kindle Vella, it’s a place where you can serialize your novel over an extended period, instead of publishing one whole story all at once. If you’re considering self-publishing and wanting to maximize potential income, do yourself a favor and take a peek at Amazon’s Kindle Vella platform. 5/17/2023 0 Comments Add git to segger embedded studioI was hoping to diff files with SES after committing them to compare the latest version and the previous version, in order not to open SourceTree or P4Merge manually. We definitely do not plan to do this with every iteration of the product. However, other people felt very strongly that the product was underpriced at $29.95, and the "That's all? Are you crazy?" look we'd get at MacWorld when we demoed version 2 factored into the "what do we price 3" discussion. For the standard version, we definitely had some people here who opposed increasing the price at all. We ran the risk, however, of becoming the Mozilla of outliners, though - nifty, feature-packed code that takes so long to appear that no one really cares any more when it does arrive. It, quite honestly, was not designed for you as a user.Īnd I'm sorry for that if we had infinite time and infinite resources, we'd have loved to develop everything at once and present you with an app that did the data-driven stuff you're after and had great presentation features. If you're the type of user that doesn't care one whit about what things look like, if you're the sort of user whose documents are just used to keep yourself on track and they never leave the format of your monitor, then I can understand you being a little disappointed by version three. Those users are lawyers, students, teachers, and authors. We added tools for the folks that we know wanted those things. So, yes, we focused on better presentation in our documents and on the printed page. The features you *could* implement will always be more numerous than the features you have time to actually implement. I used to do a lot of OmniOutliner support, and I cannot count for you the number of times that we got email that began "I really like OmniOutliner, but I used to use this tool called MORE." This broad class of users was the bigger than the other broad categories, and when you're developing any application, you have to prioritize. The largest broad category of feedback we got, though, was "I really like writing in OmniOutliner, but I need to export my document to Word, or AppleWorks, or before I can show it to anyone." Many of these users were the folks that ponied up far more than Outliner costs, even at the new pricing for a tool from back in the day called MORE. Other folks looked at the fact that we had columns and summaries and wanted us to go in a more spreadsheet-y direction. Some folks used OmniOutliner 2 as a to-do list and organizer - they wanted one set of features. When we decided to start in on OmniOutliner 3, there were at least three broad categories of users we could go for. Yeah, there are different users out there, and they want different things. Give me both apps (Outliner & Focus) for the price of Outliner Pro, extend the license to encompass both a desktop & a laptop or iPad, maybe a really good family license price & I could spring for it again. Although, a matrixed outliner is pretty darn good as a tool. Outliner appears to have gone long in the tooth, because it hasn't really evolved much since the first cut of version 3, from my trial. OmniOutliner Standard IS cheaper than OmniFocus, a nice offshoot that they made, as a GTD listmanager, but which they priced far past its a broad customer base. This is what I used to use the long defunct (OS9 only) InControl PIM for, before stumbling onto OmniOutliner, as a ToDo manager that had a spreadsheet matrix built in. (Useful multi-columns is what Circus Ponies lacks). The inability to link as Circus Ponies is a drawback, they haven't yet enticed me to stay with the product as much as I love its multi-columns. Its been really fabulous, but every product has is reasonable price point. Requirements: Intel, 64-bit processor, OS X 10.I've had OmniOutliner since version 2, but stopped upgrading. It's teased that Devil May Cry's women will have a starring role in the not-so-distant future, though. Nico's new to Devil May Cry 5, though like Lady and Trish she's confined to a supporting role. The focus here is on action, and on pushing it to new extremes, and so intent is Devil May Cry 5 on doing so it doesn't have much time for other embellishments. Maybe you see that as a slight, but I certainly don't intend it to be - PlayStation 2 games were awesome, and I admire Devil May Cry 5 for forgoing most mod cons to deliver a game that's unashamedly old school (save for the spectre of microtransactions, admittedly, though they're so slight that after my first playthrough I had to ask Capcom if they'd been removed entirely - they're still there, it turns out, as a shortcut to unlocking moves, but so generous is Devil May Cry 5's economy you've got to wonder why Capcom invited ill-will by keeping them in at all).
